Net annual OAS vs net income

Good to know

  • The clawback is per person, not per household: each spouse gets their own $95,323 threshold.
  • TFSA withdrawals are not included in net income and do not trigger the clawback.
  • The recovery tax is usually collected by reducing your monthly OAS cheques from July to June following the tax year.
  • Deferring OAS to age 70 increases your benefit by 0.6% per month (up to 36%), but it does not avoid the clawback.
